INNOCENT

I’m concerned for you
Friend dearest.
For you to be left alone
In the world so vile
Such innocence that you harbor
May not sustain you much longer.
When the old faces fades
Who shall keep you in company?
Men have duties, women are bonded
you so single shall be left so lonely.
Shy to faces you know not whom
Shy to words you know so well.
I wish I never knew you child
your plight, it makes my heart so frail!
HOPE

Beloved stranger,
So I call you.
No longer friend or foe.
I hear you when you me from afar
And speak my words from you heart!
That’s vibrations, which binds
hearts, fond, fonder, fondest.
I believed and revelled in the ‘prophesy’.
You spoke of rains, which drenched your youth
and of the love you lost for naught.
Together we shed tears for things bygone.
Together we smiled on our fruitful gains.
Tears were salty and smiles were sweet.
Times passed by and times to come.
Give you word to keep this bond
unto grave, this silent lore.
Promises made are made to break
So you broke, and broke my heart.
Left me lone without a word, a
breezy note, out in cold, beloved foe!
Come again if you may, for
my heart still sings the songs you taught.
My eyes still bear the dreams you sowed.
My lips still crave for the thousand kisses
My fingers seek their counterparts
Beloved stranger if ever come you may
Seek me beneath the bed of flowers
White for lilies and red for roses.
Here I keep my soul for you
Just in case, for want of a kiss!Or if you still fly in far off lands,
So be it, so be it,
its all right with me!

SACRIFICE
Our love my dear
is meant not for me
nor for you.
Leave it to the world
and be happy!
NOTHING
I oft wondered
what made you
so beloved to me.
Now I realise,
it is your non existence.
Why should you marry (and shouldn’t):Indian context

A man is perfect in himself
Unlike women
That he need not marry
So says my friend, single, whole.

But I was for marriage
I argued on the sense of belonging
And he blamed me for
Being an ordinary country lass1

Why does one marry I wondered
Confused, how does two aliens
Be companions for life and
Entwine their bodies in fondness! (to be contd.)
LOVE

I walk through roads
which leads to many a countries.
I am welcomed everywhere
No matter where I go.
I have a perpetual smile on my face
that mesmerizes even a ruffian.
Given a chance I permeate anything
and everything, animate or inanimate.
And kindles a glow that I alone can
and imparts eternal beauty.
I make hearts grow fonder
and imparts sweet pain in isolation.
I am beautiful, handsome and tall in one
And once you get to know me, you never forget me.
But when you get too much of me into head
idiots you become and happily walk to gallows for nothing.
Corrupt me not with the malice of carnal lust,
I am great when pure as lily.
Smite me not, for once smitten
I leave forever, leaving you in agony lifelong.
Solitary

It is a bliss to be alone
Chasing one’s own fancies,
Loving weird things and persons,
dreaming unlimited unhindered.

Solitude is,
emptiness in a cozy cocoon
a glossy mirror, a sweet void;
which reflects us back,
echoes our own sound to us
from eternity to eternity.

Not a single leaf wafts unsolicited,
nor a drop of rain wasted.
Lonely moments are always fruitful
rich and lovely, virgin blossom!

Bring not in a ray of sun
A gleam of moonlight
A lovely woman nor
A note of music!

Leave me unto me my peace
I am happily wedded to my mate
Let it be so until I die.
Loneliness and me
Oh! What a pair we make.

SYMPATHISING

Sympathising

So to speak,
There are miseries umpteen around us.
An amputated leg, a hollow socket
An orphan kid, cries of agony.

War time miseries far away
But the wind brings echoes
Of doleful hearts, heavy as lead
Shed a drop dear, for its out pain too!

Retarded minds crafts foxy plots
Knows not that blood is red
Yours or mine, theirs or ours
Misplace bombs even on tombs!

One dead, two dead or a thousand,
News on papers that’s all right.
So far it’s not you and me
No one cares and life goes on.

Do shed a drop dear, for its out pain too!

SCHIZOPHRENIC

SCHIZOPHRENIC

I hear voices all around me
In daylight and nightfall.
Threatening, pleading, murmuring
Hateful and at time amorous.
Male or female, I know not
But human yes, sure of that.I get to work but they drag me out
Such powerful are they that never cease.
A drizzle at first gains on as shower.
Come out, they say, one or many I know not,
Come with us to the world of eternity.
Deprived of my solitudes I grew
From infancy to the whiteness.
I never were alone the voices came to me
Every now and then devouring my peace.
At times they threaten to kill me
a wary bus, a deep pool, a gust of air.
So I’ve quit travelling, not even
venture beyond my thresholds.
Sometimes they speak from the sun
each ray an individual voice.
So I painted my windows black
Drew the curtains and pulled over a sheet.
But still through the air they
whisper, each whisp a thunder in my ears.
I plug my ears, my eyes and nose
It is suffocation, but relieving.
Now they speak through my heart
A thud thud every now and then
So I pulled out the eerie thing
And shred to pieces, and now its tranquility.

SORROW

SO TO SPEAK,
THERE ARE MISERIES UMPTEEN AROUND US.
AN AMPUTATED LEG, HOLLOW SOCKET
AN ORPHAN KID, CRIES OF AGONIES!
WAR TIME MISERIES FAR AWAY
BUT THE WIND BRINGS ECHOES
OF DOLEFUL HEARTS, HEAVY AS LEAD.
SHED A DROP DEAR FOR ITS OUR PAIN TOO!
RETARDED MINDS CRAFTS FOXY PLOTS
KNOWS NOT THAT BLOOD IS RED
YOURS OR MINE, THEIRS OR OURS,
MISPLACE BOMBS ON TOMBS.
ONE DEAD, TWO DEAD OR A THOUSAND
NEWS ON PAPERS THATS ALL RIGHT.
SO FAR ITS NOT YOU AND ME
NO ONE CARES AND LIFE GOES ON.

DO SHED A TEAR DEAR, FOR ITS OUR PAIN TOO.

FAREWELL

FAREWELL

IAM SAD

MY FRIEND SPEAKS TO ME IN MONOSYLLABLES
WHY? I KNOW NOT
IT NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE.
HE SAID JUST A ‘HELLO’ WHEN WE
MET LAST TIME AND THEN PARTED.
A HELLO IS HOLLOW
A HI IS A LIE
I NEED TOBE SPOKEN TO
AS OF YEST AS OF ETERNITY.
I AM RESERVED WHEN IT COMES TO
SPEAKING WITH AIR AND VOCAL CORD.
BUT, WHEN IT COMES TO BLACK AND WHITE
I BECOME PERENNIAL.
PERHAPS, I SHOULD HAVE MAINTAINED BREVITY,
AFTER ALL FAMILIARITY BREEDS CONTEMPT.
DID I CORRUPT YOUR SOLITUDE BY MY WORDS?
DID I TRESSPASS INTO YOUR SANCTITY?
DID I MAKE RIPPLES IN THE OTHERWISE CALM WATERS?
DID I………..
IF SO, I MAKE MYSELF A BIG SORRY
AND RETIRE TO MY COCCOON,FOR
WHEN I GROW WINGS AND BE A BUTTERFLY,
I ALWAYS OPEN UP TO FONDNESS IN SUCH PROFUSION.
SO DEAREST, I RETIRE TO MY NICHE
I CLOSE MYSELF TO EXTERNITY.
YOU MAKE FRIENDS WITH THE COSMOS!
I RETIRE, A NON ENTITY!

ON HOW A POEM IS WRITTEN

ON HOW A POEM IS WRITTEN

BURY A LOVE DEEP IN YOUR HEART
AWAY FROM THE VAGARIES OF THE MUNDANE WORLD.
SECRECY IS IMPORTANT, ALTHOUGH THE
LANGUAGE OF THE HEART IS ESOTERIC.
LET A THOUSAND NEEDLES PIERCE IT
IT MAY BLEED, THE PAIN AGONIZING.
CARE NOT, FOR THE RESULT IS WORTH IT
BEAR IT WITH A SMILE AS LONG AS YOU CAN
AND WHEN THE PAIN BEGINS TO CEASE
FONDLE IT WITH A BLOOM OF UTMOST BEAUTY AND FRAGRANCE.
IT’S THEN THE HEART BEGINS TO SING
SONGS THAT LIFTS YOU TO HEIGHTS ANON
MINGLED WITH THE BEAUTY FRAGRANCE AND PAIN
VERSES THAT LEAVES YOU SPEECHLESS.
BLESSED ARE THOSE THAT HEAR IT.
AND EVEN MORE, ARE THOSE THAT SING IT OUT TO THE WORLD!

ECSTASY

YOUR SMILE ON MY LIPS
AND, MY LOVE IN YOUR HEART
OH LORD!
WHAT ECSTASY!
